About the club
We are a student organization at St. Cloud State University dedicated to competitive cybersecurity. We practice together every week and represent SCSU at regional and national competitions.
Our mission
Give every SCSU student — regardless of major or background — a place to build real cybersecurity skills through hands-on competition, mentorship, and teamwork, and to send a competitive team to represent the university each year.
What membership looks like
Members come to a weekly meeting, pick up skills in labs and scrimmages, and try out for competition rosters as they’re ready. Newer members shadow veterans; returning members lead training on their specialty. You don’t need to commit to a competition to join — plenty of members come for the community and the labs.
Competition history
- CCDC (Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition) — our flagship event. SCSU is a two-time Minnesota state champion. Teams of eight defend a small enterprise network against a live red team while keeping services online and briefing “management.”
- DoE CyberForce Competition — a U.S. Department of Energy event focused on defending critical-infrastructure and industrial control systems.
- National Cyber League (NCL) — individual and team CTF-style games covering forensics, cryptography, web exploitation, and more. Our most beginner-friendly competition.
